Description:Materials engineers work to produce, process, and manufacture raw materials and finished products, focusing on the interrelationships between structure, properties, processing, and performance of materials. Spatial reasoning skills help materials engineers develop, modify, and apply processes for the conversion of raw materials into useful engineering materials with desirable properties.

As the only university in western Canada to offer a Materials Engineering program, University of Alberta graduates are in demand across Canada and around the world in industries as diverse as energy, biology, medicine, consumer products, and communications.

This program does not allow admission directly from high school. Preprofessional Study Time: 1 year. All students in the Qualifying Year in the Faculty of Engineering follow a common curriculum in their first year. At the end of the first year, students choose among the various specialized Engineering programs offered and between the traditional and cooperative education streams.
